Dallas: Classes canceled for seven Dallas ISD schools due to power outage on Wednesday.

Power outages in North Dallas resulting in multiple Dallas ISD schools shut down classes on Wednesday, as recovery efforts still continue to handle the devastation caused by Sunday’s EF-3 tornado.

According to reports from the District officials, the following schools will remain closed for the day:
  • Hillcrest High School
  • Ben Franklin Middle School
  • Medrano Middle School
  • Cary Middle School
  • Dealey Montessori
  • Kramer Elementary
  • Joe May Elementary
Three of elementary schools will conduct classes, but that too at an alternate site: Burnet, Cigarroa, and Pershing. They will be meeting at Loos Field House. Not only this, officers worked throughout the day yesterday to prepare the athletics venue to organize academic activities.

Three other campuses were left closed due to severe damage. Long-term alternative site Thomas Jefferson High School is re-opening at the Thomas Edison High School in West Dallas which was closed recently.  More than 1,800 students will be routed nearly 10 miles to the Jefferson at Edison campus.

Walnut Hill Elementary will reopen at a long-term alternate site Tom Field Elementary. Staff members and the students of Cary Middle School will be split between Medrano Middle and Franklin Middle, depending on the home location of students.
